Female authorship gained momentum in Iran after Islamic Revolution: Minister

Iran’s Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance says female authorship in Iran has gained momentum since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

Seyyed Abbas Salehi said the number of female authors in Iran amounted to “nearly eight to ten thousand” last year.

He noted that the 1979 Islamic Revolution played a very significant role in the rise in the number of female authors.

He made the remarks in a virtual ceremony honoring the position of women on the occasion of the national Women’s Day.

Iranians commemorate the national Women’s Day and Mother’s Day on the 20th day of the lunar Islamic month of Jamadi al-Thani, which marks the birthday anniversary of Hazrat Fatemeh Zahra (PBUH), Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)’s daughter and the wife of Imam Ali (PBUH), the first Imam of Shia Muslims.

This year, the Mother’s day fell on Wednesday.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Salehi referred to how Islam honored women.

This year, the birth anniversary of Lady Fatemeh Zahra (PBUH) coincided with the Ten-Day Fajr (Dawn) ceremonies across Iran, marking the anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
